If you started blogging recently, then you must have come across the term ‘search engine optimization’ or SEO. When I began blogging in 2009, I knew nothing about this term ‘search engine optimization.’ Then later I started realizing the necessity of SEO and went through various articles relating planning an SEO strategy. By the time I knew the term SEO I had to leave blogging and close the website as I started my engineering studies. At present many bloggers are focusing on recent advancements in SEO, but as an engineer, I feel that the basics are to be explained first before going to the research part. I had written two articles about bounce rate, but it has no use before you know the basics.
Implementation of SEO techniques is crucial for any website or blog as it gives your blog free traffic from the search engines and proper SEO strategy would eventually lead to website success. Now you will ask what this SEO or search engine optimization is.
Search engine optimization is nothing but making any website or blog search engine friendly by implementing certain techniques and methods. These methods should not only be applied to the website but also off-site. Making a website search engine friendly would help it to rank higher in the search results. This is a step by step process and requires a lot of effort from your side to understand the various terms involved in SEO techniques.
This is the search engine optimization or SEO strategy that is done on the main content of the blog post or article which involves page title, headings, keyword, footer note, content, images, and videos used for a particular page. On t page, SEO is also termed as On site SEO by many bloggers. This has to be done to make your web page easily crawled by search engines and help them to understand the purpose of your page. If you want to go through these techniques in details, follow the below link
Off Page SEO or On-site SEO is carried out on your website to increase the off-site presence of your site. This is done basically to form links to your web page, as they are crawled by the search engine crawlers and thus would affect the ranking and place of a particular web page of your website. Submission of your site to various search engines is also a part of Off Page SEO. For detailed information regarding Off page or On-site SEO go through the below link
Before going to the general classification of SEO, you should, first of all, know the basics. So let me begin this SEO guide with the basics of SEO
This is not actually a part of SEO implementation technique, but it has to be taken care of when you write a blog or post. You should always think of your visitors. Focus on topics that are trending but remember that if you want to convey information, you should cover the old issues in a new way. If you are only considering new trends in the topic of your interest and neglecting base of the topic, then the basics of the subject will be missing from your website. My advice is that, write about trending topics but don’t leave old ones behind.
Write about topics that are more frequently shared among the users of a particular niche. If someone writes 20 ideas about a particular subject, you should try to write 50 or even 100.
The first step to start writing a blog is to find the right focus keyword for your blog post. I already explained that using a single focus keyword is more beneficial in my earlier blog and you can go through it by following below link.
Everyone says that a focus keyword should be less competitive and of high volume. Now, what is this?
I also didn’t understand when I first came across this term. This is so simple. Do you want to know? High volume means a significant number of searches and by low competition means less number of advertisement bids for the keyword. It was that simple. Isn’t it?
After you choose the keyword, be explicit in using this keyword. For example, if you want to tell about bounce rate basics, then try to use more specific keyword, say ‘what is bounce rate?’, ‘everything about bounce rate,’ ‘reducing bounce rate’ and so on. These specific keywords are called long tail keywords which would help your website to reach to your target visitors.
After selecting the keyword starting writing the blog focused on the keyword you selected. This involves using the keyword in the blog you are writing. Try to use the keyword in the headings, main content and the footer note. This helps the search engine crawlers to find the purpose of your post more effectively. Writing search engine friendly content is not that easy, but if you are writing your first blog, it will take some time to understand it.
Note: – Don’t show your vocabulary skill here. Keep everything simple and smart.
It took me about 8 hours for my first blog post to do all the stuff including typing the blog post and performing the search engine optimization. Remember to take care of the spellings and grammar mistakes as Google, and other search engines are very strict about it.
After writing the blog write a beautiful and attractive meta description for your blog that will appear in the search results. This step is not that important for SEO but may help you to increase the traffic to the website.
Try to include the focus keyword in the headings, subheadings, and link to the web page. Don’t stuff the content of the blog with keywords which is a bad habit and will be noticed by the search engine crawlers. Also, try to keep the keyword density up to 2% of the total words used in a blog post.
If you think that images are not necessary for your blog, then you are creating the most critical blogging mistake of your life. They play a vital role in earning traffic and as they add beauty to the web page. They not only give visual appeal to the web page but also are indexed separately when you submit a sitemap. So don’t avoid adding images to the webpages wherever necessary and see the results for yourself. Use proper file names for each image to rank high on Google. Use infographics instead of plain images as they are more descriptive than plain images.
Linking your website to the social media is an important part of Off Page SEO strategy. When you link your site to the social media, there is every possible chance of your site to rank higher as the social media sites have high rank. This would increase search engine visibility of your site. Initially make separate social media accounts on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter, etc. for your website and link that address to your site. It is a nice way of making your site visible to many people. You can even share your posts on your personal profiles.
Social bookmarking is not dead but it should be performed judiciously and must be involved in any SEO strategy smartly. Various sites can be used to submit your site, but in my opinion, if you are beginner don’t go for too many social bookmarking sites. Stick to 2-3 sites for your article submission. I usually use the below mentioned social bookmarking sites.
Due consideration has to be given to the selection of tags and category of your website that is related to one of the categories of social bookmarking sites. You cannot submit a website dealing with search engine optimization to a category related to health.
This step is not at all important as the search engine crawlers are regularly on work but submitting your site to the search engines makes the task quicker and gives a faster result. To submit a site to the search engines, you have to generate a sitemap for the website which is basically in .xml format. Submit this sitemap.xml to the webmaster tools of the search engine. You have to sign up for the webmaster instruments such as Google webmasters and Bing webmasters. After signup, login to the webmaster tool and submit the sitemap, and that’s all. Go through the below links to signup for Google and Bing webmaster account.
The building of quality backlinks is one of the most important parts of creating an SEO strategy, but it is not an easy task. It will take time. It depends upon the authority you give over the internet through your website. Backlinks are created if someone really liked your blog and linked your page to one of their blog posts. If you just started to blog it will be tough for you to build backlinks. So, in my opinion, avoid this step in the beginning as it will not give results even if you work hard.
I gave this suggestion as quality backlinks are only created if you have traffic. If there is no traffic to your website, even though you have written great content no one will be there to appreciate. Thus working on traffic is more important at the beginning.
Note: – Don’t buy backlinks. With the introduction of Google Penguin, it is not at all suitable for your website to have paid and irrelevant backlinks. It is better to have no backlinks than being penalized by Google. Also don’t submit your site anywhere, as it will create irrelevant backlinks of low quality.
Auditing a website is important to know the shortcomings that are present in the SEO of the site. Auditing gives a full report of the various aspects of SEO of the website which would help you to analyze the proper SEO functioning for your site. You have to either hire an SEO firm to do auditing or you can buy any SEO software that will work same for you.
You can also use free software available over the internet such as SEO Powerlite to audit your website. You can even check the ranking status of the site for a particular keyword. At the beginning of your blogging journey don’t go for paid SEO tools. Use free tools and wait for results.
Auditing provides individual reports that you can use to tweak your website to make it search engine friendly.
On-page SEO is referred to the modifications and techniques that you adopt to make the content of your website not only search engine friendly but also to make your posts rank higher on search engine results page(SERP). On Page SEO, techniques adopted decides the success or failure of any blog.
If you have selected a particular topic, then you should know that there are tons of articles on the same subject. It may happen that many big players are already writing about the same topic. Here is the place where on-site SEO comes into play. Doing keyword research right is not the only key to success. You have to implement it judiciously to be successful.
Let me explain with an example of my own post. As my website is new, my article on this blog with title Off page SEO techniques for beginners to rank on the first page is ranking lower than the page “On page SEO techniques to rank on the first page” by shoutmeloud.com for the keyword ‘off page SEO for beginners‘. This is solely because of the domain and page authority I am offering with my blog. I don’t criticize my blog, but Domain age matters to Google and other search engines.
So, it becomes more important for new bloggers to initiate on-site SEO towards the right path. Although the keyword selected by you may be very competitive but satisfactory on-page SEO could help you to cross the bridge in the long run. Before going into the details of the SEO techniques, let us know the basis of onsite SEO.
This Onsite SEO is also known as On Page SEO. The process requires you to follow certain guidelines and rules for an efficient ranking your article higher on search engines. After you have done proper keyword research and selected the long tail keyword variant for your post certain procedures, you have to follow to make your keyword selection count.
You have to remember one thing, that SEO is not a one-night dream. It has to be done consistently to remove SEO mistakes that can lead to organic traffic disasters. I recommend practicing it on a weekly basis as search engines require some time to crawl your posts. If you go on changing the settings, then it may not give you desired results.
For basics of SEO and new trends to follow in SEO techniques go through the below links
Here I present you with an on-page SEO checklist which you should follow for higher search engine visibility.
Focus keyword is a word or phrase that is frequently used while writing an article or blog post. Maybe you have already selected a focus keyword, but this has to be contained here to focus our talk based on ‘focus keyword’ also commonly known as the target keyword. If you are trying to write a post focused on generic search term like SEO, then it may be impossible for you to rank higher on search engine results page.
As already discussed, domain age plays a major role in deciding the fate of your article. Thus, your focus keyword must be a long-tail variant of the generic keyword. Research had proved that Long tail keywords lead to better conversions due to more targetted traffic.
Not only higher conversions but long tail keywords are less competitive. So, what better than a long tail keyword?
Selection of keyword is the most important part of writing a post and don’t do it at last. First, choose a focus keyword and then start writing the blog post targeted on that keyword phrase. Use different variants of the keyword to avoid keyword stuffing and also to keep your topic interesting.
I had already written a lot about why we have to go for single long tail focus keyword rather than selecting many meta keywords in my earlier posts, and I will not go deep into this topic again. To know more about choosing a focus keyword to go through the below links
The next step of Onsite SEO is selecting not only a compelling title but also a title containing the focus keyword. The focus keyword that you have chosen for your post should appear in the post title. If possible, the article title should begin with focus keyword to rank higher for the focus keyword selected.
Note – Inorder to write a title starting with focus keyword, don’t give meaningless and senseless post headings.
Permalink is nothing but the Url of the page. This Url should be brief and should include the focus keyword. Don’t use senseless URLs like yourblogmyway.com/23-54-yu. If the focus keyword of the page is AdSense alternatives, then try to keep the URL short to yourblogmyway.com/adsense-alternatives. You can also implement the page title in Permalink as shown below.
This inclusion is even more necessary because Google strictly ranks pages higher with shorter URLs with more meaning. Thus, try to keep your Url or Permalink of the page short, meaningful ( relevant to the page content) and attractive.
Apart from using a relevant and meaningful Url for one of your blog posts, you must use the focus keyword in the Url of the page.
This use of target keyword helps the search engines crawling particular Url to identify the purpose of your page and also contributes to rank higher on Search Engine Results Page(SERP).
Using of focus keyword in the Url of the page is important, but you should also remember to remove the stop words from your web page Url. The Examples of stop words are for, of, a, the, your, our, and so on. Below I am presenting a model to understand clearly this step of on-page SEO technique.
yourblogmyway.com/off-page-seo-for-beginners—-with stop word ‘for.’
yourblogmyway.com/off-page-SEO-beginners—-without stop word ‘for.’
This is necessary because the Internet users are becoming smarter and their search terms are becoming more particular as mobile usage is increasing. The use of stop words in search queries is reducing day by day and thus, stop words should be removed from page URLs also. Here are some examples of Search queries without stop words

Search engine friendly content writing is not an easy task but requires a lot of hard work. You have to implement your focus keyword judiciously such that it should look relevant and necessary and not forced. This is the most important part of all the On page SEO techniques. Using focus keyword in the content would help your page to rank for the selected particular keyword.
Using the focus keyword in the first paragraph makes the content of your blog post clear right from the beginning. Thus, using the selected target keyword in the first paragraph of your post is a must. This also helps the search engines to rank pages higher for the keyword you selected.
The step is also necessary to tell the viewer your intentions. It is a good way to keep your content targeted on your keyword by mentioning it in the first paragraph.
According to the research provided by many bloggers, web pages having larger sized articles are ranked higher than the articles having less content.
Although, I personally feel that content length should not be the deciding criteria for ranking any article, but search engines don’t feel the same way. Research carried out by Quicksprout on content length shows that great content with more than 2000 words length ranks higher on search engine results page.
Moreover, longer content would keep your audience more engaged resulting in lower bounce rates and higher conversions.I usually maintain the size of my posts anywhere between 1500-2500 words. If the topic is large, I try to split the topic into two articles.
My personal research also reveals the same fact with long posts receiving more organic traffic and higher social shares on my blog.
Note: – Don’t deliberately increase the length of the posts. Be sensible in writing. Cover topics only that is necessary.
Modifiers are the words like best, worst, good, awesome, ultimate and so on. As these words may have a great impact on the user’s mind who is reading an article online, I use them wherever necessary. I used the modifier ‘ultimate’ in the title of this blog post. A modifier helps to increase focus on a particular topic and thus increases user involvement. Thus, modifiers should be used not only in the title but also for the content of any blog post to increase user engagement.
Use of images not only adds visual appeal to your website but also helps to grow your website’s traffic to some extent. If you know about page indexing, you should be aware that images are indexed separately and thus if a search is carried out on Google images, it may happen that someone may reach your website from image search. Thus, the addition of images is necessary. You can also use infographics that have more information than a dull picture. To know more about infographics and creating them for free online you can go through below link.
Note: – Images should be compressed to increase the page load speed.
In 2016, videos are going to play an important role, and thus relevant videos should be added wherever necessary. The addition of videos is important because it helps your web page to serve its purpose more accurately and efficiently.
Alteration tags are necessary for any image which helps the search engines to index the image to the group it belongs. Alt tags are necessary as images are indexed and if alt tags are given in agreement with the web page it is in, then web page may receive traffic through that image as explained above. If you are using WordPress platform for your website, then some plugins automatically assign alt tags to images on a particular web page.
Every web page should be attached to a featured image. This featured image acts as a thumbnail to your web page and brings traffic to your web page through Google images. Images are easy to catch attraction, and thus, these featured images should contain the title of your blog post. It may also contain a quote involving the focus keyword. The name or title of this featured image should be same as that of the post title. The first image in this post with the post title is the featured image for this post.
The letter ‘H’ represents heading. Heading tags are important as it helps the search engines to identify the sub-topics you are going to discuss in your blog post or article. In many blogs, the H1 or heading 1 tag is reserved for page or post title and thus don’t use it anywhere else. You can use H2 or H3 or H4 tags, but you should not use H1 tag more than once. If used, then a misconception of more multiple page title is created for the search engine crawlers which would make it difficult for the page to rank in search results. Also, avoid

If used, then a misconception of more multiple page title is created for the search engine crawlers which would make it difficult for the page to rank in search results. Also, avoid
Also, avoid repetitive heading tags. It is most common practice when we are building a list. Although it looks beautiful, it will have an adverse impact on your overall SEO strategy.
Are you confused? Let me explain. Search engines expect that a heading tag must contain sufficient content under its head to be called as the title. But, if we are making a list as I had made here, then it is not possible to add long content under each sub-heading. Thus, I recommend you to use some shortcodes to display the lists. If you had bought a premium WordPress theme, then shortcodes are readily available and if not, don’t worry there are many third party plugins. I use GPP Shortcodes plugin on my posts.
As mentioned above, a heading tag should be used to tell the search engines about the matter we are covering in our blog post or article. Leaving the H1 tag, you should use H2 and H3 tags in any article. You should also try to use focus keyword in these headings i.e. heading 2 or heading three but don’t use them forcefully.
HTML5 introduced the concept of using more than one H1 tags on the same page. It may not have much problem, but you must ensure that there is a considerable amount of content under each heading tag to make it significant.
Only use focus keywords in H2 or H3 tags if it is necessary otherwise it is not that important to rank higher on SERPs.
Page speed is the most important factor that is used by Google to rank pages. Thus, you should concentrate heavily on increasing the page speed. High ranking pages don’t have page load speed more than 5 seconds. You can check page speed on below-mentioned websites.
There are certain tweaks that you can apply to increase your page speed. Here is a small list for newbie bloggers.
- Choose a good hosting provider-The page speed mostly depends on the web hosting provider. Don’t fall into the trap of cheap hostings. You will get what you pay for and thus, rely on trusted hosting companies like Hostgator, Site Ground and Bluehost for better page loading speeds.
- If your blog is getting a significant amount of traffic, switch to Cloud or VPN hosting from Shared hosting.
- Compress your images-Use WP Smush. I am using it on my blog with remarkable results.
- Use W3 Total Cache-Cache can be very hurting at times resulting in slow page loading times and thus, a cache management plugin is a must for every blog.
- Use speed booster plugins
- For WordPress blogs, keep the number of installed plugins to minimum
If you are using WordPress, there are tons of plugins that can increase page speed and can be utilized for compressing images. You can use Speed booster pack plugin on your WordPress blog to perform page speed tweaks.
If you are writing evergreen posts, then you don’t have to worry about the publishing date, but the search engines strictly follow the date you published your article. Also, the older posts sometimes vanish in the complex website structure. It may happen that one of your best works is not recognized by search engines due to its age.
Then, what is the solution? There is a simple solution for this problem. Either you hide the date stamp on your posts by using a simple WordPress plugin or manual editing, or fake the date of the posts.
Yes, you read right. To the right of your Post editor on WordPress, there is edit link next to the Published on Date tab. You have to just edit the date and you are done.
But, the most important thing. You have to add some extra content to your post to get better results. I had used this tactic with fruitful results. Try this on your blog with evergreen posts. If you are running a News blog, then please don’t try this as it will wreck your blog.
Interlinking is the process of linking your related pages or posts on one of your blog post or page.
Interlinking is necessary, and it increases the user engagement on a particular website. As a single blog post should focus on a single specific topic, interlinking can make the issue more informative.
Also, interlinking results in better user experience and helps in building a reputation for any website. I like to read articles from shoutmeloud.com, which are very informative in my sense. Interlinking also contributes to reducing bounce rate. To know about bounce rate and the factors responsible for it go through the below links.
Above I had presented an example of interlinking where I linked bounce rate related articles from my blog.
No one has the knowledge of everything, and especially for new bloggers with a blog 2-5 months old, not much content is available to interlink. In such cases, you can even link to other relevant web pages from another website. Outbound links are an important part of On page SEO and help to rank your page higher on search results. These links are counted as a thumbs up for any website because they provide better user experience and makes any topic of your blog post more descriptive.
Note: – Don’t use too many outbound links and remember to read the article before linking. Also, link to pages having high-quality pages with good page rank such as Wikipedia.
Creating social media accounts are necessary, but the addition of social media icons is equally important. Social media icons can be added as share buttons and also social media icons can be added activity buttons such as Facebook like box, twitter follower box, etc..
The Meta description is the small excerpt that is shown in the search results below the title of the page. If you are using WordPress, then the SEO plugins such as YOAST and All in one SEO will allow you to change this excerpt. If not added, the first 160 words of your post will be shown as the meta description. Writing a decent and attractive meta description is necessary to attract more visitors. Meta description written should also involve the focus keyword to rank higher on Search engine results page for that particular keyword. The Meta description for any web page is shown in the search results as indicated by the below image.
A subscription popup is a page that appears whenever a unique visitor lands on one of your web pages. It asks the user to fill the email address to receive updates from the site a particular person has landed. I feel that adding a Subscription Popup to the pages of your website increases the chances of getting more targeted visitors. Using popups would increase the chance of getting repeat audience in the form of email subscribers. If you are using WordPress platform, then Optinmoster is the best option, but as it is paid, I prefer Email subscription popup plugin which is smooth and moreover free. SUMOME is another great free option.
LSI or Latent schematic indexing is an algorithm used by search engines to link a particular keyword to the related keywords. Thus, LSI keywords are nothing but the keywords that are related to your primary keyword. LSI is the technique of linking one keyword pattern to another keyword profile. For example, if a person is searching for On page SEO then On page SEO techniques, on page SEO methods, on page SEO basics are the LSI keywords.
To identify the LSI keyword for a particular keyword, search the keyword in Google search, and you will find the LSI keywords at the bottom of the search results page. Below you can see how LSI keywords look for any search query in the Google search results page.
Using shorter sentences and improving readability is an important part of On page SEO as long sentences are not only painful to read but also very much difficult to understand.
If you are using Yoast plugin for SEO, then it performs a Flesch readability test and scores above 60 for the test are acceptable.
If you think that using tough words would make a reputation for you as a blogger, then you are going to commit suicide as a blog writer. This is because; blogs are read by people of different types having different vocabulary skills. In English speaking countries it may be easier to understand sentences with difficult words, but in countries like India, where English is not the primary language, users may find it difficult to get the meaning of sentences with difficult words. Thus using simple vocabulary would make your blog acceptable by all.
Use of only one H2 heading tag or only H3 or H4 tag will make your blog look better, but if you use more than one heading tags on a single post, it is an indication your blog post is highly detailed. Thus, this part is considered significant by the search engines to rank your page and therefore, you should try to use more than one heading tags on a single page.
On-page SEO is an integral part of every website and is equally as important as Off page SEO. Creating a unique and helpful content is a must before following any of the steps mentioned above. Thus, try to focus on writing great content before you even think of implementing these techniques because On page SEO techniques are only fruitful with good content.
Off Page SEO (search engine optimization) is an important part of the SEO process which increases the visibility of your website not only on search engines but also on other high-ranking sites. The presence of your site or blog on other high-ranking sites is crucial to rank high on Search engine results page(SERP). These links on other websites pointing to one of your web pages are termed as backlinks. Quality backlinks act as a vote to rank any page higher on Search engine results page(SERP). Proper implementation of Off Page SEO techniques ensures that your website or blog is available at different places which are taken very seriously by Google and Bing and it is an important criterion for ranking a website or blog. Higher ranked pages appear on the top page in search results. Thus, it is imperative to have a high rank for your web page so that it may get high search engine traffic.
Off-Page SEO refers to the techniques you adopt to increase the Off Page presence of your website. It involves submission of site to search engines, link building and creating social media accounts.
Traffic is generated not only from search engines but also from other places where one of your web pages is back-linked. Thus Off page SEO is equally important as On page SEO, and thus, it should be done very carefully. Before going to the off page SEO checklist, it is necessary to understand the significance of Off page SEO.
Search engines have complex algorithms to find the content of your website and fetch the users who perform a search on the search engine with the most proper results. These algorithms not only consider the page quality and Off Page SEO but also consider the Off Page presence of you blog or website in determining the rank of a web page on search engine results page (SERP). This will help to satisfy the user intent. If your website is helpful and useful, it will have more references, and more often it will be shared by people on social media.
A website with many references, high-quality content, and bigger social media presence is more likely to rank higher on SERP.
Proper Off Page SEO techniques will ensure that your blog will get higher traffic because of the following reasons
Organic traffic from search engines is a primary source of natural traffic for any website or blog. If you have performed Off Page SEO correctly, your site would raise in ranking on SERP and thus there will be an increase of traffic to your site.
Google page rank is an important term that determines the importance of your blog or website in the eyes of Google. Remember that Off Page SEO is one of the important factors for deciding the page rank for your site and if done properly would result in an increase in Google Page Rank.
If your website is present on social media and other social bookmarking sites, it will get more exposure and thus would get more traffic eventually.
Here I present you with the only Off page SEO checklist you would ever need. I personally never like checklists but prefer step by step guides. So let us now discuss the various stages involved in Off Page SEO. Every step mentioned here have their purpose and importance, and definitely, each step is a part of your SEO checklist.
This part of the submission of sites to search engines is not at all necessary but submission makes it faster to get the pages and posts of your website indexed in the search engine database. This also helps to keep track of the traffic that you generate through search engines. Thus, in my opinion, submit your website to search engines as soon as you launch your blog.
You have to submit the sitemap of your website to the search engines which is the form of a .xml file. Before submission, you have to sign up for webmasters account for the search engines such as Google and Bing and then verify your website. The simplest way of verifying a website is to upload a file provided by the search engine webmaster tool and upload it primarily in a public_html folder using file transfer protocol (FTP).
Submitting your website to search engines through webmaster accounts would also help you to keep track of how users are reaching your blog. Webmaster and Google Analytics account are helpful in maintaining a check on traffic that you get for your blog or website.
To signup for Google and Bing Webmasters, you can follow the below links
Although this part of Off page SEO strategy is not that important, it speeds up the overall process of page indexing. Remember that your basics of SEO must be firm to proceed further for Off page SEO techniques. To know more about SEO basics and new trends for best search engine optimization, you can go through below links.
This is another important step in Off Page SEO. Making Individual social media profiles for your site is vital as these websites have a high rank on search engines and thus, your website would also be indexed with these high ranked Social media sites. This indexing would help to raise the ranking of your blog on search engines.
Managing a large number of social profiles for an individual is difficult, and thus, I would suggest you start just with the giants Facebook, Google+ and Twitter, which I think, would be enough for authorized social media presence for any website. Don’t forget to include buttons or links on your website that leads to your social media profiles.
In my opinion, Twitter is the better way of getting traffic to your webpage initially, as you can follow as many people as you like. While following anyone on Twitter, try to follow people who are related to the theme of your blog. It may happen that they may follow back and when that happens, every time you post a tweet related to your blog, it is visible to them also. Thus, Twitter is the most appropriate social networking tool for your blog to make its social presence felt. This also increases the reach of your website and thus may eventually help to increase the traffic of your site. Please don’t follow anyone blindly but try to follow groups or people that are relevant to your blog.
Earlier the importance of social media in Off page SEO techniques was not much, but with the increase in usage of social media by the internet users, it became crucial for any website or blog to be present socially.
Note: in- Only making social media accounts will not give you regarding traffic. You should be active on social media to get significant results.
Building quality backlinks is a time-consuming process. Initially, backlinks are generated by social media profiles and other websites where you submit your blog. If someone adds a link to any of your blog pages, a backlink is created. These type of backlinks have the greatest weighting and are considered very significant by Google while deciding a rank for your website. But building such links with less number of posts and small domain age is almost impossible. Thus I will tell you some simple methods to develop backlinks.
Note: – With the new Google Penguin update, submitting your website through free website submission tools for the creation of backlinks will not work anymore.
As I have written this Off page SEO guide for beginners with a new blog, I will not discuss the rigorous methods for generating backlinks as initially getting quality backlinks is difficult. Thus this SEO guide for beginners only focuses on commenting and Guest posting which a newbie can easily do without having any track record for his or her blog.
Leaving useful comments on high page rank websites with significant traffic is an important part of link building. This process of link building is not easy as most of the webmasters don’t accept comments with website links. Even some big egoistic bloggers stated that they will not allow comments with website links.
But many liberal bloggers accept comments with links. Remember that commenting is a skill and only comment on topics which are significant to your blog. Many bloggers comment by appreciating the blog or page, but when I comment on other pages, I like to have a conversation with the author of the post.
This discussion is necessary to gain knowledge and also to develop relations with fellow bloggers. I personally feel that blogging can bridge gaps between people and territories. So, please don’t be senseless in your comments. Stupid comments are comments that criticize a post for no reason or appreciate a worthless blog post. You should be truthful and judgmental in commenting.
Remember that no one on this earth is God, and thus mistakes may happen. You can point out those mistakes while commenting.
One thing I should tell you that commenting would never give you tons of traffic, but yes it will help you to get engaged with other bloggers. This engagement would help you to gain new ideas that you can include in your blog.
Guest posting is not dead, and it is still one of the primary sources of creating backlinks to your blog. I have written many guest posts as a hobby for free over the past 5 years. I also earned money due to Guest posting and one thing I found that getting accepted for your Guest post depends on person to person and blog to blog. If you are submitting a post to a new blog, it will be accepted right away with no comments and suggestions. Do you think this would help? In my opinion, it is just wasting time and energy. Guest posting is only helpful if you are submitting a quality Guest post to a blog highly reputed and with a significant amount of traffic.
Many of you will think that Why I should write a quality post for some other blog? Yes, this thinking is right up to some point but have you ever thought that why you have started your blog? What is the reason behind it?
If you are sharing something valuable and worth knowing through your blog, what is the need of this knowledge if it is not reaching the public with whom you wanted to share it. Thus writing a guest post will make sure that your thoughts are transmitted to the people you wanted to. If your Guest post is of high quality and it achieves it purpose, its may also help to build a good reputation for you as an author. This good reputation will eventually lead the readers of you to guest blog to your blog. This will only happen if you are submitting a quality article in the form of Guest post. Thus take time and effort to produce a guest post with useful and valuable content.
Remember that Guest posting is an important part of Off Page SEO which helps in building quality backlinks which would help to raise the ranking of your website both on search engine results page(SERP) and also on Google page ranking.
- Don’t submit one of your already published blogs as Guest post as it will either be rejected or if went unnoticed you will be penalized by Google for Duplication
- Don’t write Guest post for a blog which is not related to the theme of you blog
- Don’t copy paste from other blogs and submit a guest blog
Many bloggers over the internet are suggesting that commenting is not a good way to build backlinks but if that is the case, then we should remove the comment section on our blog. Yes, if you are writing useless things as comments such as
- Excellent blog keep it up
- Excellent post I became a fan
- You earned new reader today, then it is of no use.
This type of commenting is not helpful as it may probably be rejected by the webmasters. As I already discussed that commenting would not generate tons of traffic to your website, but you can interact with more experienced bloggers and gain knowledge.
Some bloggers are spreading the misconception that Guest posting is dead and can be penalized by Google for building bad quality backlinks. This is all misleading as adding a link to your blog on your guest post is same as someone else adding a link to any page of your blog. As the Guest post is present on some other blog and thus it would be a quality backlink to your website or blog.
Every link to your website or webpage is helpful if it is built naturally. Social bookmarking is losing its charm, but it may still be useful. If you want to promote your website by social bookmarking, then you can try these below-mentioned websites and promote your website accordingly.
Apart from these websites, there are many social bookmarking websites, and you can choose one depending upon the content and nature of your blog or website.

Quality content has always been the key to success of any blog. Earlier it was thought that posting a single post with high quality is enough to keep any blog alive.
This trend is changing, and you have to think of density now. Posting more and more high-quality content has become necessary in the present day competition.
Personal branding has been a favorite for me. In 2017, more and more companies would take advantage of this tool.
People forget information, but a brand always keeps you ahead of other’s in the competition
In the past, very few organizations took advantage of this instrument but now, the time has come to exploit the personal branding as an SEO strategy.
I had talked a lot about user experience earlier. A properly crafted website is a must for successful SEO.

SEO or search engine optimization techniques will take some time to bear fruit. Many of you will ask how long it will take for an SEO to come into action. In my opinion, you should be patience and wait for results as it can take 4-6 months to rank your pages higher on Google or Bing search.
Google performs the ranking process 3 to 4 times per year which means your website can be ranked every 4 months at least. Thus look carefully for the SEO shortcomings and act accordingly and wait for results.
As search engine optimization is a vast topic and I will not be able to cover everything here, I will add new blogs related to SEO in future to make the term more clear and apparent.
